Diabetes and high blood pressure

Hypertension is an important risk factor for the development and problems that many complications of diabetes come from. Many of these problems include diabetic eye disease and kidney disease. It can affect up to sixty percent of people that have diabetes.

Having diabetes increases your risk of developing high blood pressure and other cardiovascular problems. Diabetes adversely affects the arteries, predisposing them to hardening of the arteries. Arteriosclerosis can cause high blood pressure, which if it is not treated, can lead to blood vessel damage, stroke, heart failure and heart attack

Even high blood pressure that is normal can cause high blood pressure. Studies show that people with normal yet high range blood pressure readings over a ten year period of check ups had a two to three increase in the risk for heart disease. You do not want to have any more risks involved when it comes to diabetes and what you have to do.

There are many people that do have to deal with the problems of high blood pressure. So many people that are in great health have to handle their blood pressure. It is important to keep this under control no matter what kind of health you are in so that you can keep your health as great as it can be.

If you have diabetes, your blood pressure readings may vary. In general, your blood pressure should not go above 130/80. The first number is the systolic pressure or in other words, the pressure in the arteries when your heart beats and fills the arteries with blood. The second number is the diastolic pressure or the pressure in the arteries when your heart rests between beats. This is what fills itself with the blood for the next contraction.

Having a normal blood pressure reading is as important to managing diabetes as having good control of your blood sugar and what you are eating. It is important to do this because of the complications that can happen due to the diabetes. You want to avoid these complications whenever possible because they are so dangerous to have.
