Kidney disease and diabetes

Diabetes is the number one cause of kidney failure. Almost a third of the people that have diabetes have kidney problems at some point in their life. It is even harder when the person gets older and has to handle these types of problems. They are annoying and can cause a lot of stress on the person.

People that have diabetes do worse than people with kidney disease alone. This is due to the fact that people with diabetes tend to have other long-standing medical conditions. Some of these conditions are high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Others will have to deal with medical conditions like blood vessel disease. People with diabetes also tend to have their kidney related problems such as bladder infections and nerve damage to the bladder itself.

Kidney disease in type one diabetes is slightly different than type two diabetes. In type one diabetes begins abruptly and may start at an early age. In type two diabetes, many people have kidney disease coming on. When they are diagnosed with diabetes it is frequently found in the middle or older aged person with some other chronic conditions. Kidney disease may have been caused by other conditions.

Some of the symptoms of kidney disease will start early and you can watch out for them. If you have swelling of the hands and feet and even the face. You may experience weight gain. Some people have itching on their skin. If you have any kind of irregular heartbeat, you may have increased potassium in the blood. If you find that your muscles are twitching often and for no reason, this may be another symptom that you have to watch out for.

As the kidney disease progress, your kidneys cannot remove the waste from your blood. The waste that builds up in your body can reach poisonous levels. This is something that you have to watch out for and it called uremia. People with this are often confused and are not sure what is going on around them. This condition is only worsened by high blood pressure. This is just another reason to keep control of your blood pressure.
