What are the risks with diabetes?
There are many things that can be risk factors for diabetes. There are so
many things that you have to think about so that you can determine if you
are at risk of having diabetes in the future. If you do have any of the
risk factors, you need to seek the help of a physician at once.
There are genetic factors that are associated with diabetes. Usually when
you go into the doctor, they will take a family history to determine if
you are at risk in that way. Usually if there is any history of diabetes
in the family, there will be an increased risk in the chances of that
person getting it.
There are certain genetics that make some people more at risk than others.
There are many things that have to be taken into consideration to
determine if a person is higher at risk than others because of their
family history.
There are many different races and ethnic backgrounds that are more
inclined to get diabetes. For some more than others, it is more of a risk
to deal with. It is important to know and understand if you are at risk
for this disease so that you can change your way of life now before it
does become a problem.
There are medical risk factors as well. One of the best predictors of type
two diabetes is impaired glucose tolerance. People with impaired glucose
tolerance have higher than normal blood glucose levels. For most, they are
not high enough to be diagnosed with diabetes. Most experts will say that
IGT is an early stage in the natural history of diabetes.
Being overweight is a major risk factor for type two diabetes. It is
important to get a hold of your weight and get your body in a more healthy
state. You have to be willing to take the proper steps to get your body
healthy and in shape again. If you are losing weight or gaining weight
more than normal, there may be a problem that you are going to have to
deal with.
The degree for which obesity is a risk factor depends not just on overall
weight, but also on the location of the excess weight that is being
gained. If there is central or upper body obesity is a greater risk factor
for type two diabetes compared to excess weight that is carried below the
waist.
