What is diabetes?
Diabetes is a condition in which the amount of glucose in the blood is too
high because the body cannot use it properly. Glucose comes from the
digestion of starchy foods such as bread, rice, and potatoes.
Insulin is a vital part of the diabetes fight. It is a hormone that is
produced by the pancreas that helps the glucose to enter the cells where
it is used as fuel by the body. The main symptoms of diabetes that goes
untreated are increased thirst, going to the bathroom all the time,
blurred vision and thrust.
There are two types of main diabetes. There are type one and type two
diabetes. The type one diabetes develops if the body is unable to produce
insulin. This type of diabetes usually appears before the age forty. If it
is treated by insulin injections and diet and regular exercise is
recommended.
Type two diabetes develops when the body can still make some insulin, but
not enough, or when the insulin that is produced does not work properly.
In most cases, this is linked to obesity. This type of diabetes usually
appears in people over the age of forty. However there are some cases,
where younger people are coming infected with diabetes.
There are many children that are being diagnosed with diabetes now. Many
children as young as seven are being faced with this problem. Tablets or
insulin may also be required to achieve normal blood glucose levels.
The main treatment of both diabetes is to achieve blood glucose. You have
to have the blood pressure and cholesterol levels as near as normal as
they can get. This is achieved with a healthy lifestyle and all the right
medications that you are going to need. With the right work, a person with
diabetes can protect themselves from long term damage to the eyes, kidneys
and the rest of their body.
This is a hard disease to control, but with the proper knowledge and the
right medications, any one will be able to over come the problems that
they are faced with this disease. They will be able to go on with their
life and live a happy and healthy lifestyle with a little work and
determination.
